Barry Lowden defeated Matt Stewart 21-9 in the final of the Hawcoat Park Spring Singles on Sunday 7th April, in a strong entry from both the
Furness and Kendal bowling leagues.
In the top half of the draw, playing on.1 green, Barry took the scalps of James and Paul Dennison in the early rounds, before knocking out last years Marklew Memorial winner, Ben Wright in the 3rd round. The remaining rounds were played on no.2 green where Baz quickly adapted to the quicker conditions and the improving weather, in beating off the challenges of Gareth Jones in the quarter final and Danny Edmonds in the semi’s.
Meanwhile Matt, playing all day on no.2 green, defeated Tony Moxham and Steve Ashburn in the opening rounds, before beating King Alfred bowler, Ian McDonald, in round 3. In the quarter final Matty saw off the challenge of home green bowler Geoff Maudsley, who himself had defeated last years winner Roy Moxham in the previous round; before taking the scalp of Paul Kissock in progressing into the final.
After an even start to the final, Barry took the initiative with some excellent lead bowls in capturing his first Kimberly Clark trophy since 2011.
Bob Stewart, Secretary, would like to pass on his thanks to the Ladies for their hard work in the kitchen all day, to all those who had marked and
measured, and the clubs sponsors for their continued support.
